Laura Linney is an American actor, who became well-known for her performance of powerful but fragile characters. Her father was an acclaimed playwright, but Linney was raised as a single child with a single mother, a nurse. During the summers when she was with her father Linney discovered a love for theatre. Her first stage experience was first through Brown University then at Juilliard School. Her career began on Broadway soon after graduation, she made her debut on film in just two years and on television within a year. Innumerable appearances in movies, television shows and stage shows since. She has been awarded numerous prizes during her professional career. These include 4 Primetime Emmy Awards, two Golden Globe Awards, three Academy Award Nominations, and five Tony Award Nominations. Despite her numerous awards, she still loves the theatre, and has appeared on both screen and stage.
